Version 1.0.0 beta 1
Early public beta 31 October 2026 · Linux x86_64
Version renumbering from 0.1.0b2 to 1.0.0b1. This is the first beta in the 1.0 series, not a claim of full Windows 7-Zip feature parity.
Included
- Classic archive file manager and 7-Zip engine, with archive creation, browsing, adding files, extraction, checksums and encrypted archives.
- Two-panel mode, natural sorting, navigation, copy/move/delete, and nested archive browsing (read-only).
- F5 Copy from inside an archive now opens the Extract dialog.
- UTF-8 text viewing and editing, including save-back to regular archives, up to 8 MiB.
- Voluntary Ed25519-verified AppImage updates with download hash checking and rollback. Automatic checks default to off.
- AppImage and DEB packages for Ubuntu 24.04-based systems, plus full application source.
Known limitations
- This is not yet feature-equivalent to the Windows 7-Zip File Manager. Some advanced features and menu commands are missing.
- Drag-and-drop from Archive Manager to Nautilus still needs normal-desktop acceptance; Nautilus-to-Archive Manager has passed.
- Nested archives are read-only. Rename and create-folder within archives are not supported.
- Text viewer/editor supports UTF-8 files up to 8 MiB. No general binary-editor support.
- Large operations can block the interface. Cancelled operations may leave partial files.
- Some special filesystem metadata, symlink and cross-filesystem cases are not fully tested.
Installation and update policy
The download page provides AppImage, DEB, checksums and source. Updates are always optional and require user confirmation. DEB packages are maintained by APT rather than the AppImage updater. This release has been tested in clean Ubuntu 24.04 containers and on Zorin, but broad cross-distribution testing is ongoing.
